Medicaid

Medicaid is a state and federally funded healthcare program that provides health care coverage to eligible low-income and medically vulnerable people.  Ohio's Medicaid program provides a wide array of medical benefits including doctor visits, prescriptions, prenatal and preventive care. Union County Department of Job and Family Services determines eligibility for Medicaid programs that provide health care coverage to individuals with low-income, pregnant women, infants and children, older adults, and individuals with disabilities.  Those eligible for Medicaid may also be eligible for transportation assistance to and from medical appointments.


Qualifications & Coverage

To qualify for Medicaid a person must:

  • Be a US citizen or meet Medicaid citizenship requirements
  • Be an Ohio resident
  • Have a Social Security Number
  • Meet certain financial requirements


The following individuals may qualify for Medicaid coverage in Ohio:

  • Individuals with low-income
  • Pregnant women, infants, and children
  • Older adults
  • Individuals with disabilities
