In March 1917, the Ohio General Assembly passed the White-Mulcahy Act. This legislation provided that the county engineer in cooperation with the state highway commissioner create a map of roads in the county. The maps were also to show the road identifying number, municipal corporations, rivers and streams along with the townships in the county. Currently, this legislation, last updated in 1973, is embodied in Ohio Revised Code section 5543.04, which is entitled Naming and Numbering Road and Bridge – Maps. It still mandates that the county engineer create highway maps of the county and update the maps when new roads are established. |
